Stoves, supplied and fitted
Most installations can be completed in one or two days, where there are no preparatory building works to complete beforehand. We bring our own protective coverings for carpets, floors and furnishings and treat your home with the utmost respect. All our installation crew members are fully trained, presentable, polite and respectful at all times.
Morning
We usually arrive on site around 8.30am
Every chimney flue gets an extensive clean and sweep before a flue lining system goes in. We often liaise and work with other trades and adhere to client schedules to ensure that all installations are completed as planned and on time.
The flue
Stainless steel, gas-tight sealed
We will only use stainless steel parts (paint finish onsite) within our flue systems so that the longest life of the parts can be achieved. All joints are gas-tight sealed and permanently fixed together so that no problematic movement occurs in the flue system during operation or annual sweeping.
On top and inside
A cowl and a CO alarm as standard
We fit colour matched stainless steel anti bird / rain cowls to all our installations as standard, to keep rain and nests out of the flue, and a non intrusive Carbon Monoxide Alarm (10 year battery included). For roof work we use roof ladders, ridge access platform stands and mechanical lifts, whichever is most cost effective for your chimney.
Afternoon
Usually finished around 4pm the same day
A Smoke Draw Test is provided with every installation. As a HETAS registered company, for safety and legal purposes we will not Certificate installations that have not been carried out by ourselves.

The stoves we recommend
We are not tied to any particular make of stove, which means we are free to be impartial about our recommendations. After years of fitting quality stoves we know the customer is never disappointed.
We will fit other stoves so long as they are CE Approved and of serviceable compliant condition, which we would assess. When we receive an ordered stove it is thoroughly checked for damage and that all stove parts and documents are present and correct.

Chimney sweeping
Our chimney sweeps are all courteous, presentable, fully insured and have many years experience. 9 times out of 10 a chimney can be swept from inside the home, from the bottom of the flue. We put down drop cloths to protect the house and furniture and use a 4 stage filtration vacuum to control any dust that comes back down the flue during brushing.
& tested
Every standard sweep
What we do in your home
Chimney is thoroughly swept, back shelf is vacuumed, fire-back is scraped clean, fire basket and all other apparatus and parts are scraped, vacuumed, stove is cleaned and fireplace hearth is vacuumed and left at minimum as clean as found. All soot deposits and debris are taken away for proper disposal.
Smoke Test & Certificate Included
We issue a detailed Chimney Sweeping Certificate after sweeping every chimney. This certificate will provide you with documentary evidence that your chimney has been visually inspected and professionally cleaned. This is an important document and should be retained for Insurance purposes.
Stoves we sweep need to be lined: an unlined woodburner or multifuel stove is no longer swept.
Standard domestic open fireplace or lined stove
The everyday sweep, with a smoke test and certificate every time. Each additional flue in the same property can be done on the same visit (Inglenook chimneys excluded).
Commercial Chimney
Public houses, hotels, oven chimneys and flues (Inglenook chimneys excluded).
Blocked (Bird Nest etc.) or Dormant chimney
Birds have been known to completely fill a chimney with nesting material, and nests are hazardous to health, containing parasites, mites and bird faeces. Dormant chimneys are often found to be in poor condition and un-swept for many years, so they get additional sweeping and checks to ensure proper cleaning and operation of the flue.
Flue reamer
Where a flue is so badly blocked with tar or creosote build-up that it prevents proper cleaning with traditional brushes and methods, we are able to use a powered rotary system to clean such flues.
Sweeping from Roof
On occasion it is possible to sweep a chimney from the top down where conventional means are not available (i.e. Fixed Damper Plates etc). We can sweep it there and then, rather than leave you waiting while access is put in.
When a sweep can't go ahead
If a chimney or appliance turns out to be unsafe to sweep or use, a written report is issued detailing the reasons and solutions to rectify.

How often to sweep
Recommended sweeping frequency for flues and chimneys:
- Wood: Quarterly when in use.
- Bituminous Coal: Quarterly when in use.
- Smokeless Fuel: At least once a year.
- Oil: Once a year.
- Gas: Once a year.
Glazed creosote
Third degree creosote forms in hard, dense layers and cannot be cleaned with conventional tools. We use Cre-Away, a four component powder that safely and effectively modifies glazed creosote so that it can be more easily removed by chimney sweeping.
Not only do we brush the flue, we also brush the firebox, the damper, the smoke-rise, and we clean out the smoke shelf of ash, creosote, and debris.

07852 862009Linings, cowls and chimney repairs
It was only in 1965 that Building Regulations required new chimneys to be built with suitable flue liners. Old chimneys should be checked by a professional competent person before being put back into use, and most stove and fire manufacturers require their appliances to be used with chimneys that have a suitable liner. We are able to offer a variety of HETAS Approved Chimney Lining Systems.

Stainless steel liners
We fit twin-skin flexible stainless steel flue liners in a range of diameters and steel grades (important if burning fuels other than wood). Where no chimney exists we also supply and install new twin-wall insulated metal chimney systems, in natural stainless steel or powder coated finishes such as Matt Black, Cotswold Stone or Brick. This is quicker and cheaper than building a chimney in bricks or blocks.
| Inner / outer grade | Fuels |
|---|---|
| 316L / 316L | Wood & (Low Sulphur) Coal Only. No Smokeless Fuels. |
| 904L / 316L | Wood & Multi Fuel. Including Smokeless Fuels / Smokeless Coal. |
| 904L / 904L | Wood & Multi Fuel. Including Smokeless Fuels / Smokeless Coal. |
Diameters: 125mm, 150mm, 175mm, 200mm, 225mm, 250mm and 300mm. Liner Warranties range from 10 - 25 years from date of install.
Eldfast ceramic lining
A traditional cast in-situ coating. With adaptations to our tooling, flues from 62mm up to 600mm can be cleaned and lined, with minimum reduction to the existing flue size, so it is ideal for open fireplaces and for lining Inglenook chimneys.
- Resistance to thermal shock (chimney fire)
- Gas tight before and after a chimney fire
- Resistance to attack by acid condensation
- Eldfast's 25 year guarantee
FREE survey and quote.
Cowls, cages and bird guards
We supply and fit a wide range of bird guards, cowls (Anti-Down-Draught, Spark, Rain etc.) and caps. All of our cowls are made from stainless steel and powder coated in a variety of colours to suit any property, such as Terracotta, Buff Stone, Black etc. We can also provide bespoke bird guards and rain covers for non standard chimney pots and openings.
Chimney crown repairs
Chimney fires, freeze damage and the weather crack the crown at the top of the stack. Minor cracks can be filled and the entire crown repaired and sealed with CrownCoat, a flexible brushable sealant that comes with a 15 year warranty from its maker.
Fireplace and hearth cleaning
We can provide fireplace and hearth cleaning as a stand alone service or as part of an enhanced installation service, using Paint N Peel fireplace cleaner on brick, stone, slate, tile and most other masonry. Send us a picture with dimensions and we will advise pricing and availability.

Surveys, tests and reports
- Smoke Draw Test
- Provided with every sweep and installation.
- Smoke Pressure Test
- Carried out where the integrity of the chimney or flue system is in question.
- Assessment Reports
- A comprehensive assessment and survey of any chimney and/or wood or multi fuel stove, covering external brickwork and mortar condition, flaunching and chimney pot condition, flashings, internal brickwork or linings, Building Regulations compliance and more. Presentable reports for Insurance, Assessment and Negotiation purposes can be provided.
Fireplaces, beams and hearths
We supply and fit traditional, modern and period reproduction stone fireplaces, in Cotswold Stone (honey, cream or buff), Bath, Portland and Reconstructed Stone, handpicked from a small selection of manufacturers. We are also able to offer a bespoke service where your own designs can be realised.
Before a stove goes in we can carry out any fireplace alterations needed: enlarging the fireplace opening, fitting and raising lintels, internal rendering or boxing in, and finishing work such as plastering.
Beams that are safe near a flue
Building Regulations say no combustible material should be within 3 x the diameter of a single wall flue pipe, so a 150mm pipe needs 450mm from a timber lintel. Concrete wood effect beams let you keep single wall flue pipe and a traditional rustic look, in three colours, two styles and bespoke dimensions. Real timber beams are available too.
Bespoke hearths
We supply and fit bespoke hearths made from a variety of natural and fossil stones, flags, slates, granite and marble, to suit your room and stove.

What customers say about Dave and the team
The Clear team - Dave and Ethan were perfect! Very professional. The job wasn't straightforward, but they opened and repaired a very old unused chimney with new flue liner, chimney pot, and fitted the wood-burner to a high standard, all at the right price. I highly recommend their work.
I couldn't recommend Clear Chimney Services enough. From start to finish everything has been great and we are incredibly happy with our new log burner installation. Only a few weeks on since our initial enquiry, we are completely up and running. Big thanks to Dave and the team! 👍🔥
I’m extremely pleased with the log burner installation. Dave and his team was reliable from start to finish, with excellent communication throughout the whole process, nothing was too much trouble. The installation was completed to a very high standard and they left the place very tidy. Highly recommend!
Dave and Ethan were great, lovely chaps, very clean and professional. Great team. Cleaned old unused chimney, repaired chimney mortar and fit the wood-burner all to a great standard and at a good price. Would highly recommend. I have them back for chimney sweeps in a year!
Fantastic service - Dave offered advice on which size burner would be most suitable for the room and also gave us options on which designs would work. Burner was fitted last year and had no issues whatsoever, our chimney hadn’t been swept for a number of years (we weren’t using the fire place before the burner was fitted) - and dave was super clean and tidy/ efficient in his work. Our cat loves the new log burner (pictured). Thank you very much!
